🍃Pantoneys Crown Adventure🍃
Pantoneys Crown is a large isolated mesa in the middle of the spectacular Capertee Valley. The Capertee Valley is widely reknowned as the second-widest canyon in the world – though there are many other factors contributing to what we call the ‘biggest canyon’! If you haven’t heard or visited this protected Crown Land before, this may be your perfect chance to make the trip down while also gearing yourself up for a tough but rewarding hike!
There are a few routes up to the summit of Pantoneys Crown, which all include a fair bit of off trail navigation including bushbashing, scrambles and long steep climbs. These make for a tough day out, not to mention the 3 hour drive from Sydney – However, the views from the top of the mesa are simply unrivalled as you look out onto the vast Capertee Valley and Gardens of Stone National Park – now declared part of the Greater Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area. Join Hikeandseek on a fully guided day out to summit Pantoneys Crown and test out your wits and endurance. Pantoneys Crown has a wide plateau on its summit and makes for many wonderful vantage points once the summit has been reached.
TRAVELLING TO PANTONEYS CROWN
Pantoneys Crown is approximately 3 hours drive from Sydney and a meeting location will be confirmed with participants. Transport must be arranged individually and no public transport is available to Pantoneys Crown. Carpooling may be able to be arranged for some individuals – enquire within.
FITNESS REQUIRED:
A moderate - high level of fitness is required for this hike as a 450m ascent is involved with tough inclines and scrambles in some instances. There are no obvious trails on offer to the summit and multiple challenges will be faced. Although the climb itself is not the most physically demanding there is a high degree of technical ability required for the day along with a fair bit of sustained walking to and from the base of the mesa.
* This hike is not well suited for first time hikers or beginners and requires participants to be self-sufficient and able to look after their own safety at all times. Please enquire further about suitability for this walk if unsure. *
PANTONEYS CROWN
Pantoneys Crown is a spectacular mesa found in the majestic Capertee Valley, well reknowned as one of the spectacular canyons of the world – particularly for its status as a birdwatching paradise and the rich presence of history and nature. Pantoneys Crown was inaccessible for a long time after the Black Summer fires of 2019/2020 and the ensuing rains meant that a lot of overgrowth has sprouted meaning the presence of additional bushbashing for the hike on the way up to the summit. The Starting location will be within the Capertee Valley itself.
